INTERPERSONAL STYLE

In general, my interpersonal style is somewhat relaxed, non-judgemental, caring, but upfront. I work collaboratively with my clients to understand them as fully as possible and empower them to make positive decisions and changes in their lives. This is a joint effort, but ultimately, the responsibility lies in the client to direct his/her own life. I use my knowledge and skills as a psychologist to guide me in our work together and I will let you know what I see so that you can consider this information during your journey.

I always tell clients that "it is my job to ask and it is your job to decide if and/or how you would like to answer." This statement reflects the spirit of honest communication that is conducive to a good outcome in psychotherapy. I want my clients to know that any reactions they have in therapy are important and to be valued (even if that reaction is "I don't feel comfortable talking about that" or "I don't really think that is an accurate assessment of me"). This type of honesty builds trust, guides the psychotherapeutic process in the right direction, and helps me understand you more accurately. Learning to be more authentic in the therapy room helps you be more yourself in the outside world as well.

In sum, I believe that everyone is capable of making choices and changes in their lives that will help them maximize their potentials if given the right support and feedback in a safe environment. This is what happens with good psychotherapy experiences.

Are you ready to fly?         Are you ready to soar?
